Constructing Superhydrophobicity by Self-Assembly of SiO2@Polydopamine Core-Shell Nanospheres with Robust Oil-Water Separation Efficiency and Anti-Corrosion Performance

Zhen Shi et al.

Summary: A controllable and effective strategy for constructing robust superhydrophobicity using hydrophobic interaction driving self-assembly (HIDS) is demonstrated. Polydopamine (PDA) is used as the binder and SiO2 particles as the nano-sized structures to achieve low-adhesive property. The coatings have excellent stability and can be assembled on various substrates, regardless of their size, roughness, chemistry, and rigidity.

Enhancing Spontaneous Droplet Motion on Structured Surfaces with Tailored Wedge Design

Zhongzheng Wang et al.

Summary: This study developed a theoretical model describing the movement process of droplets on surfaces with prescribed wedge shapes and found agreement with experimental results. By comparing the transport performance of different wedge shapes, factors affecting the movement process were identified and guidelines for optimizing wedge shapes for spontaneous droplet transport were provided.

Summary: The study fabricated three-dimensional topological SLIPS with specific functions by integrating the structures from natural creatures, capable of effectively and precisely transporting droplets and manipulating droplet motion of different solutions. These created surfaces have potential applications for condensing heat transfer and droplet-based lab-on-a-chip devices.
