Volatile Organic Compounds in Exhaled Breath as Fingerprints of Lung Cancer, Asthma and COPD

Ileana Andreea Ratiu et al.

Summary: Lung cancer, COPD, and asthma are inflammatory diseases with increasing global prevalence, causing physical and psychological distress to patients while incurring high societal costs. Analyzing trace VOCs in exhaled breath has the potential to provide cheaper, rapid, and non-invasive screening procedures for diagnosing and monitoring lung diseases, but challenges remain in terms of research consensus and clinical implementation.

Nonanal Sensor Fabrication Using Aldol Condensation Reaction Inside Alkali-Resistant Porous Glass

Masato Tsujiguchi et al.

Summary: The study developed a sensor chip for detecting the lung cancer marker nonanal gas, using vanillin and a basic catalyst for reaction, detecting nonanal concentration through absorption spectrum changes, showing potential for early disease diagnosis. The alkali-resistant porous glass sensor chip exhibited higher absorption changes compared to conventional porous glass sensor chips.
