Controlling the Gate: The Functions of the Cytoskeleton in Stomatal Movement

Yihao Li et al.

Summary: This review focuses on the organization and dynamics of actin filaments and microtubule network in guard cells during stomatal movement. The role of cytoskeletal-associated proteins in cytoskeletal rearrangements during stomatal movement is also discussed. The potential mechanisms of stomatal movement in relation to the cytoskeleton are explored, providing a foundation for further research in this field.

Improvement of heat stress tolerance in soybean (Glycine max L), by using conventional and molecular tools

Jianing Guan et al.

Summary: Soybean is an important legume crop, but extreme heat stress can negatively affect its yield and quality. Developing heat-tolerant soybean genotypes is crucial, and various molecular techniques and breeding methods have shown promising results. However, further research is needed to understand the genetic factors involved in soybean's response to heat stress.

Formin-mediated bridging of cell wall, plasma membrane, and cytoskeleton in symbiotic infections of Medicago truncatula

Pengbo Liang et al.

Summary: Legumes have the ability to associate with rhizobia for nitrogen-fixing root nodule symbiosis. In Medicago truncatula, root hair colonization by Sinorhizobium meliloti begins from young root hairs, which physically entwine around the symbiont to form rhizobial traps. This unique process involves alterations in membrane organization, cytosolic calcium gradient, actin rearrangements, and symbiotic responses in legumes.

Villin Family Members Associated with Multiple Stress Responses in Cotton

Fenni Lv et al.

Summary: In this study, 14 GhVLNs were identified in cotton, showing high conservation in gene structure and motif architecture. Cotton plants may activate the VLN genes to survive under adverse environments, as indicated by cis-elements analysis. Some GhVLN genes exhibit tissue-specific expression patterns and are distinctly upregulated by environmental changes, providing potential gene resources for creating high-quality and resistant cotton germplasms.

Pfam: The protein families database in 2021

Jaina Mistry et al.

Summary: The Pfam database has recently added a large number of protein families and domains, made revisions for COVID-19 research, and introduced Pfam-B as a supplement. These updates and improvements can help researchers classify protein sequences more effectively and conduct related studies.
