Silymarin as a phyto-pharmaceutical: Isolation, simultaneous quantification of four biomarkers and in-silico anti-inflammatory activity

Tanya Ralli et al.

Summary: In 2014, CDSCO introduced a new class of drug, phytopharmaceutical, which includes purified and standard fractions of medicinal plant extracts with at least four bioactive compounds. Researchers isolated and characterized four flavonolignans from a silymarin extract using optical rotation and 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR). They also developed a validated RP-HPLC method for quantitative assessment of the compounds and performed molecular docking studies to evaluate the potential anti-inflammatory activity of silymarin.

Dynamics of seed dormancy and germination at high temperature stress is affected by priming and phytohormones in rapeseed (Brassica napus L.)

Mohsen Malek et al.

Summary: High temperature stress induces secondary dormancy in many seeds, but priming by soil moisture can improve germination. Under high temperature stress, gibberellic acid plays a crucial role in determining seed dormancy dynamics. Hydropriming enhances germination by reducing thermo-inhibition and thermo-dormancy in rapeseed seeds.
