Phytochemical Diversity and Antioxidant Potential of Wild Heather (Calluna vulgaris L.) Aboveground Parts

Vytaute Kaunaite et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the chemical composition and antioxidant activity of different populations of heather plants collected from distinct habitats. The results showed significant differences in compound diversification and antioxidant activity among the samples from different habitats. Chlorogenic acid and hyperoside were found to be predominant phenolic compounds, while ursolic, oleanolic acids, and uvaol prevailed among the triterpenic compounds. These compounds can serve as phytochemical markers for heather raw material from central Europe.

Chemical compositions of essential oil from the aerial parts of male and female plants of Baccharis tridentata Vahl. (Asteraceae)

Manuel Minteguiaga et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the essential oil composition of male and female Baccharis tridentata Vahl plants and found high qualitative similarities but quantitative differences in certain components. Both sexes showed similar ratios of enantiomers in monoterpene hydrocarbons, contrary to related plants in existing literature. Natural bornyl acetate from B. tridentata essential oil demonstrated 100% enantiomeric excess of the levogyre enantiomer, with chemotaxonomic relevance.

Breast cancer cell line toxicity of a flavonoid isolated from Baccharis densiflora

Wendy Soria Sotillo et al.

Summary: The methoxyflavone sideritoflavone showed high toxicity in all cell lines, inhibiting both CSC and non-CSC sub-populations equally. Treatment with sideritoflavone resulted in cell cycle arrest and DNA double strand breaks, as well as activation of specific signal transduction pathways. Additionally, cell movement was decreased by sideritoflavone treatment.
