Light quality and natural ventilation have different effects on protocorm development and plantlet growth stages of the in vitro propagation of Epidendrum fulgens (Orchidaceae)

Yohan Fritsche et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the influence of different wavelength light sources combined with natural ventilation in the in vitro culture process. LED lights accelerated the development of protocorms, while fluorescent lights increased their fresh weight. Natural ventilation improved the fresh weight, root number, velamen development, and stomatal functionality of the plantlets. Additionally, the use of a temporary immersion bioreactor increased the fresh weight and number of organs.

Thermopriming-associated proteome and sugar content responses in Pinus radiata embryogenic tissue

Ander Castander-Olarieta et al.

Summary: By analyzing the changes in protein and soluble sugar profiles in the embryonal masses of Pinus radiata after high temperature treatment, this study revealed the impact of heat treatment on protein life cycle and central metabolism pathways, as well as the accumulation of proteins related to oxidative stress defense, amino acid synthesis, cell division, and cell wall organization, and the alteration of levels of free soluble sugars. These changes are likely regulated by proteins associated with epigenetic, transcriptional, and post-transcriptional mechanisms.

Organogenesis of Cucumis metuliferus plantlets under the effects of LEDs and silver nanoparticles

Chern Shun Lai et al.

Summary: This study aimed to establish a protocol for in vitro multiplication of kiwano plants using meta-topolin, silver nanoparticles, and LED treatments. The results showed that silver nanoparticles did not show a positive effect on shoot growth but may have improved rooting of Cucumis metuliferus explants. Red:blue light and white light had similar effects on explant growth, while the absence of red or blue lights caused abnormalities in plantlets. Meta-topolin was identified as a suitable cytokinin for in vitro growth of Cucumis metuliferus cultures.

Summary: Genetic improvement programs for conifer forest species face challenges in propagating elite individuals and addressing the effects of climate change. This study analyzes the influence of collection dates, 6-benzyladenine concentrations, and light types on shoot and root induction in Pinus radiata. The study also examines the impact of these factors on amino acid and carbohydrate content in vitro. The results highlight the importance of genotype and environmental factors in successful regeneration of conifer species.

Mario P. Marques et al.

Summary: The in vitro propagation of vitrified shoots of Arbutus unedo showed poor lignification and disturbances in leaf tissue organization, which may affect the balance of absorption and evapotranspiration of the plants. Further studies on the chemical and anatomical differences between vitrified and non-vitrified tissues may contribute to better understanding the mechanisms causing plant vitrification and improving micropropagation methods for this species.
