Long-chain syn-1-phenylalkane-1,3-diyl diacetates, related phenylalkane derivatives, and sec-alcohols, all possessing dominantly iso-branched chain termini, and 2/3-methyl-branched fatty acids from Primula veris L. (Primulaceae) wax

Niko S. Radulovic et al.

Summary: The study presented here for the first time identified a variety of previously unreported non-flavonoid constituents in the aboveground surface-wax washings of Primula veris. Structural elucidation was achieved through the synthesis of authentic standards, derivatization reactions, gas chromatographic retention data, and detailed NMR analyses. Notably, high amounts of branched long-chained metabolites were found in Primula veris, with some long-chained alpha- and beta-methyl substituted fatty acids being detected for the first time in the Plantae kingdom.
