Phytochrome interacting factor 3 regulates pollen mitotic division through auxin signalling and sugar metabolism pathways in tomato

Dandan Yang et al.

Summary: The study reveals the essential role of SlPIF3 in regulating pollen development in tomato, and demonstrates that SlGLT1 and SlCWIN9 colocalise with SlPIF3 in anthers and are directly regulated by it, with knockout of SlPIF3 leading to pollen development arrest. The fertility of Slpif3 lines is partially restored in a dose-dependent manner by exogenous auxin indole-3-acetic acid, highlighting a new strategy for creating hormone-regulated genic male sterile lines for tomato hybrid seed production.

A transcriptomic view to wounding response in young Scots pine stems

Kean-Jin Lim et al.

Summary: The stress response of five-year-old Scots pine xylem to mechanical wounding was studied using RNA sequencing, revealing a bimodal response with early induction of transcripts related to stress, defense, and cell wall modification, followed by a later wave of secondary metabolism activation. Stilbene biosynthesis, particularly pinosylvin and its monomethyl ether, was induced after wounding, showing similarities and differences compared to heartwood formation responses. Pine resin biosynthesis was not induced in the initial four days post-wounding.

WRKY53 integrates classic brassinosteroid signaling and the mitogen-activated protein kinase pathway to regulate rice architecture and seed size

Xiaojie Tian et al.

Summary: The study reveals the crosstalk between WRKY53, BR signaling, and the MAPK pathway in regulating plant architecture and seed size. GSK2 plays a crucial role in this interplay by phosphorylating WRKY53 and MAPKK4. The findings highlight the complex regulatory mechanisms involved in controlling rice yield.
