Perspectives on the Use of Biopolymeric Matrices as Carriers for Plant-Growth Promoting Bacteria in Agricultural Systems

Jessica F. Pereira et al.

Summary: The review discusses the use of biopolymeric matrices as carriers for plant-growth promoting bacteria (PGPB) in agricultural systems as a potential technological solution for sustainable and modern agriculture. Results from encapsulation of PGPB on various matrices are presented, highlighting their effectiveness in protecting the bacteria and their potential as biofertilizers and biopesticides. The development of these new products aims to replace harmful chemical fertilizers and pesticides, preserve soil fertility and stability, and improve crop productivity and food security. Future studies on large-scale production and field application under different stress conditions are necessary.

Nanostructured mesoporous silica materials induce hormesis on chili pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) under greenhouse conditions

Ernesto Magana-Lopez et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the effects of two SBA nano-structured silica materials on chili pepper production, with SBA-15 showing significant increases in plant height at 50 ppm and 100 ppm, while SBA-16 led to significant decreases in plant height and stem diameter when applied biweekly at 20 ppm. Both SBA materials provided hormetic effects in a dose dependent manner on chili pepper production and protection to cold stress.

Elicitation of Bacillus cereus-Amazcala (B.c-A) with SiO2 Nanoparticles Improves Its Role as a Plant Growth-Promoting Bacteria (PGPB) in Chili Pepper Plants

Noelia Ferrusquia-Jimenez et al.

Summary: The co-application of SiO2-NPs and B.c-A improves chili pepper growth by enhancing seed germination, plant height, leaf number, fruit number and yield. Additionally, it increases CAT and PAL activities in chili pepper plants, indicating the induction of plant immunity by the bacteria-NP treatment.

Molecular Characterization of Bacterial Isolates from Soil Samples and Evaluation of their Antibacterial Potential against MDRS

Shahida Sadiqi et al.

Summary: The study identified three bacterial isolates with potential to produce antimicrobial compounds from soil samples in Pakistan. The bacterial extracts were effective against multidrug-resistant strains, inhibiting the growth of both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. GC-MS analysis confirmed the presence of various antimicrobial compounds in the bacterial extracts.

The Effects of Insect Frass Fertilizer and Biochar on the Shoot Growth of Chicory and Plantain, Two Forage Herbs Commonly Used in Multispecies Swards

Simon Hodge et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of an insect frass-based organic fertilizer and biochar on the shoot growth of chicory and ribwort plantain. The results showed that the organic fertilizer generally increased shoot growth and re-growth, while biochar had a less obvious effect, but potentially synergized with the organic fertilizer to enhance shoot growth.

Response of Plant Immunity Markers to Early and Late Application of Extracellular DNA from Different Sources in Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum)

Ireri Alejandra Carbajal-Valenzuela et al.

Summary: This study explores the response of tomato plants to different DNA treatments and measures various enzyme activities and substance contents. The results suggest that self-DNA application in young plants is the most effective, and the measured variables are correlated with specific metabolic pathways markers.

A Novel Isolate of Bacillus cereus Promotes Growth in Tomato and Inhibits Clavibacter michiganensis Infection under Greenhouse Conditions

Nallely Solano-Alvarez et al.

Summary: The bacterial isolate Bacillus cereus strain Amazcala (B.c-A) from castor bean roots displayed the ability to promote tomato plant growth and significantly reduce the severity of bacterial canker disease caused by Clavibacter michiganensis (Cmm) under greenhouse conditions, indicating its potential as a plant growth-promoting bacteria (PGPB) and disease control tool.

Ultraviolet-B exposure and exogenous hydrogen peroxide application lead to cross-tolerance toward drought in Nicotiana tabacum L.

Diana Saenz-de la O et al.

Summary: The combination of UV-B and H2O2 was found to enhance drought tolerance in tobacco, increasing total antioxidant capacity and foliar epidermal flavonol index. Pre-treated plants exhibited cross-tolerance to subsequent drought stress, with different responses observed in plant enzyme activities and gene transcription accumulation.
