Phylogenetic, Structural and Functional Evolution of the LHC Gene Family in Plant Species

Yanhong Lan et al.

Summary: In this study, we identified and analyzed 1222 LHC genes in photosynthetic organisms, divided into four subfamilies. The selection pressure on PsbS and FCII families was higher than others. There were significant differences in the transcriptional expression patterns of LHC genes in different tissues and under abiotic stress conditions, with high expression in mature leaves. Based on the expression pattern and copy number, different evolutionary trajectories in the LHC gene family were proposed.

Abiotic stress responses in plants

Huiming Zhang et al.

Summary: Plants face abiotic stresses like drought, salinity, and extreme temperatures, which greatly impact their distribution, growth, and crop productivity. Recent research has revealed the complex molecular mechanisms involved in plants' responses to these stresses, including sensing, signaling, transcription, translation, and post-translational modifications. This knowledge can be utilized to enhance crop resilience and sustainability through genetic, chemical, and microbial approaches.

Photosynthetic and Morphological Responses of Sacha Inchi (Plukenetia volubilis L.) to Waterlogging Stress

Chyi-Chuann Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigated the photosynthetic responses and morphological changes of Sacha inchi seedlings to short-term and long-term waterlogging stress. The results showed that Sacha inchi seedlings had high photosynthetic capacity under sunny conditions and suitable temperatures, but their photosynthetic ability significantly decreased after 5 days of waterlogging. Screening revealed that some seedlings were able to produce adventitious roots and survive after long-term waterlogging.

Evaluation of growth responses of six gymnosperm species under long-term excessive irrigation and traits determining species resistance to waterlogging

Narayan Bhusal et al.

Summary: In this study, the resistance to excessive irrigation in seedlings of six conifer species was quantified based on their morphological, physiological, and biochemical traits. The results showed that different species exhibited different resistance levels to excessive irrigation, as manifested by changes in biomass accumulation. The study also identified leaf size, leaf mass per area, and stomatal conductance as important traits for assessing species resistance.

Carbon flux through photosynthesis and central carbon metabolism show distinct patterns between algae, C3 and C4 plants

Haim Treves et al.

Summary: Photosynthesis-related pathways in different algae were investigated using a microfluidics labelling system. The study found distinct flux patterns in some algae supporting faster growth compared to higher plants. Carbon flux through photosynthesis and central carbon metabolism also showed differences between algae, C-3, and C-4 plants.

New insights into the role of lipids in plant hypoxia responses

Li-Juan Xie et al.

Summary: Plants have evolved a set of morphological, physiological, and biochemical adaptations to survive low-oxygen stress induced by soil waterlogging or submergence. Lipids play a crucial role in regulating plant responses to hypoxia and post-hypoxic reoxygenation by modulating metabolic acclimation and signaling networks, affecting plant survival.

An updated overview of the physiological and molecular responses of rice to anoxia

Malay Kumar Adak et al.

Summary: Submergence in agricultural soil poses a significant challenge for crop plants, particularly staple grains like rice. Understanding the complex plant responses to anoxia or submergence is crucial for developing tolerance and sustainable agriculture strategies. Key factors such as plant growth regulators and gene expression modulation play critical roles in determining plant resilience under such stress conditions.

Leaf Photosynthesis and Carbon Metabolism Adapt to Crop Load in 'Gala' Apple Trees

Xiaohua Yang et al.

Summary: This study found that low crop load apple trees exhibited reduced leaf C assimilation and increased accumulation of non-structural carbohydrates. Leaf starch was found to be the most sensitive indicator for source-sink balance in apples. Even high crop load trees retained significant NSC in leaves at dawn, indicating a fundamental difference in how apples balance leaf carbon inventories with carbon export for sink growth at night.
