Research on Glacier Elevation Variability in the Qilian Mountains of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau Based on Topographic Correction by Pyramid Registration

Junze Zeng et al.

Summary: This study monitored the elevation changes of glaciers on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau using pyramid registration and terrain correction techniques. The results showed significant thinning of glaciers in the western Qilian Mountains with an elevation change rate of -0.99 m/year in the past three years. Glaciers in the southwest and north experienced minor changes with rates of 0.09 m/year and -0.08 m/year, respectively. The change in glacier elevation is primarily influenced by temperature and precipitation, with precipitation being the dominant factor.

Characteristics, Dynamic Analyses and Hazard Assessment of Debris Flows in Niumiangou Valley of Wenchuan County

Zhiquan Yang et al.

Summary: Niumiangou valley, the epicenter of the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake, has become an area prone to frequent and destructive post-earthquake debris flow disasters. Based on investigations and data analysis, the characteristics and dynamics of post-earthquake debris flows in the valley were assessed, revealing their high hazard degree and destructive power. It was concluded that Niumiangou valley is entering a development phase of debris flows, and large-scale rainfall-induced disasters are likely to occur in the next 20 years.

Discussion on the Relationship between Debris Flow Provenance Particle Characteristics, Gully Slope, and Debris Flow Types along the Karakoram Highway

Zhiquan Yang et al.

Summary: This paper discusses the relationship between the four types of debris flow along the Karakoram Highway and analyzes the particle characteristics and gully slope. The results show that the particle size of debris flow is controlled by the type, and the gully slope coefficient increases with the increase in gully slope. The research provides theoretical significance and practical application value for debris flow prevention projects.

Natural Iron Silicides: A Systematic Review

Michael A. Rappenglueck

Summary: This review systematically presents all known geogenic, impact-induced, and extraterrestrial iron silicide minerals as of the end of 2021. It provides a comprehensive list of their respective morphological characteristics, composition, proven or reasonably suspected genesis, and possible correlations between different origins, supported by the available literature (2021). The study also discusses artificially produced iron silicides in relation to differentiating them from natural minerals and determining their age in pre-industrial and pretechnogenic times.

Study on Dynamic Stability Prediction Model of Slope in Eastern Tibet Section of Sichuan-Tibet Highway

Tangjin Ye et al.

Summary: This study proposes a model for predicting and evaluating the stability of slopes along the middle section of the Sichuan-Tibet highway, considering dynamic factors such as rainfall and earthquake. By ranking the influencing factors and using wavelet and NARX dynamic neural network, the model can accurately evaluate the dynamic stability and provide effective protection measures for the highway department to deal with emergencies.

Analysis of the formation mechanism of debris flows after earthquakes - A case study of the Legugou debris flow

Na He et al.

Summary: By using the Graphic Method, Gray Correlation Method, and Frequency Method, this study determined the total amount of loose solid materials, the amount per unit area, the risk degree, and critical rainfall of the study area. The results showed an increase in loose solid source amount and decrease in critical rainfall after earthquakes, leading to debris flows under heavy rainfall. This research is important for the establishment of AI-based monitoring and early warning systems, and improving the effectiveness of disaster prevention and mitigation.

Dynamic mechanism of blown sand hazard formation at the Jieqiong section of the Lhasa-Shigatse railway

Shengbo Xie et al.

Summary: The investigation into the blown sand hazards at the Jieqiong section of the Lhasa-Shigatse railway revealed that the sand primarily originates from the southwest direction, highlighting the importance of preventive measures during the dry season to protect railway infrastructure. Additionally, the alignment of sand sources and prevailing wind intensifies the blown sand dynamics, emphasizing the need for reinforced control measures in the locale.
