Antifungal Activity of Mycogenic Silver Nanoparticles on Clinical Yeasts and Phytopathogens

Luiz Gustavo Ribeiro et al.

Summary: In this study, seven different silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were obtained from fungi species isolated from Brazilian biodiversity. The nanoparticles were characterized and found to have homogeneous size, negative charge, and protein coating on their surface. The antifungal activity of the AgNPs was evaluated on various yeast and phytopathogen strains, and the results indicated promising potential as antifungal agents. The physicochemical parameters of the AgNPs, including the functional groups present on their surface, were found to influence their antifungal activity.

Hemolytic Activity, Cytotoxicity, and Antimicrobial Effects of Silver Nanoparticles Conjugated with Lincomycin or Cefazolin

Dmitriy Korolev et al.

Summary: The overuse of antibiotics has led to the emergence of resistant bacteria. Silver nanoparticles are a good alternative with antibacterial activity against various bacteria, including multidrug-resistant strains. Combining them with known antibiotics shows a synergistic effect, enhancing the antimicrobial activity. This study focused on synthesizing conjugates of silver nanoparticles with lincomycin and cefazolin, and evaluating their physicochemical properties, cytotoxicity, and synergism of antimicrobial activity. The obtained samples demonstrated 50% antimicrobial activity, making them suitable for topical drug preparations.
