Measurement of natural radioactivity in river sediments of Thamirabarani, Tamilnadu, India using gamma ray spectroscopic technique

V Thangam et al.

Summary: This study conducted radiometric analysis on sediment samples from the Thamirabarani river belt in Tamilnadu, India, and found that the activity concentrations of natural radionuclides in the sediment were below the recommended limit. Therefore, using river sediments for construction in this area is considered safe.

Determination of natural radionuclides and radioactive minerals in urban coastal zone of South India using Geospatial approach

K. Manikanda Bharath et al.

Summary: The present study investigates the geospatial variations in natural radioactivity, radiological risks, and heavy mineral content in the coastal area of Chennai, South India. The study finds significant differences in ambient gamma radiation levels at urban beaches in Chennai, with natural radionuclides contributing to a significant portion of the effective dose.

Evaluation of Natural Radioactivity and Radiological Hazard Indicators in Soil Samples from the Environment of Al-Kasik Oil Refinery in Nineveh Governorate in Iraq

Zainab Mowafaq Marie et al.

Summary: The specific activity of Ra-226, Th-232 and K-40 in soil samples collected from the Al-Kasik Oil Refinery in Iraq was assessed using gamma-spectroscopy analysis. The results showed that the measured specific activities of these radionuclides were within internationally recommended exposure limits. However, further studies on the exposure of flora and fauna in the area are necessary.
