Neonatal kaempferol exposure attenuates gait and strength deficits and prevents altered muscle phenotype in a rat model of cerebral palsy

Diego Bulcao Visco et al.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the effects of neonatal treatment with kaempferol on the body development, grip strength, gait performance and morphological and biochemical phenotype of skeletal muscle in rats subjected to a model of CP. The results demonstrate that neonatal treatment with kaempferol attenuated gait deficits and impaired muscle strength and muscle maturation in rats subjected to a model of CP.

Hypoxia, acidification and oxidative stress in cells cultured at large distances from an oxygen source

Natali D'Aiuto et al.

Summary: The interplay between hypoxia and oxidative stress is important for understanding the effects of hypoxic microenvironments on cells. The study found that high accumulation of CO2 contributes to acidification in hypoxic conditions. Modestly hypoxic cells close to the oxygen source showed increased oxidative stress, while cells at large distances from the oxygen source displayed higher levels of hypoxia and milder oxidative stress.

Neuroprotective Effect of Maternal Resveratrol Supplementation in a Rat Model of Neonatal Hypoxia-Ischemia

Ursule Dumont et al.

Summary: Neonatal hypoxia-ischemia (nHI) is a major cause of death or disabilities in infants, with no pharmacological treatment currently available. Research has shown that supplementation of trans-resveratrol in pregnant rat females can significantly reduce brain lesions caused by nHI and alleviate long-term consequences.

Summary: Early brain damage is a key factor in the development of cerebral palsy. Research suggests that prenatal brain damage affects neurogenesis, while postnatal models exhibit increased proliferation of neural precursor cells, improper migration, and reduced survival of new neurons.
