Growth, survival, and osmo-ionic regulation in post larval and juvenile Indian white shrimp, Penaeus indicus, reared under three levels of salinity in a semifloc system

P. S. Shyne Anand et al.

Summary: This study examined the effects of salinity on the post-larval, nursery, and grow-out phases of Penaeus indicus through three sets of experiments. The results showed that the larvae adapted best to 25 ppt, and the juvenile shrimp also performed best at 25 ppt. However, different salinity levels had significant effects on the growth, ion concentration, and organ structure of the shrimp in the nursery rearing and osmo-ionic regulatory mechanism experiments.

Prospective impact of Corona virus disease (COVID-19) related lockdown on shrimp aquaculture sector in India - a sectoral assessment

M. Kumaran et al.

Summary: The global lockdown due to COVID-19 had a detrimental impact on the food production sector, particularly affecting shrimp farming in India. An estimated economic loss of 1.50 billion USD was projected for the current year in the shrimp aquaculture sector. Various measures have been implemented by the Indian government to mitigate the impact of the pandemic and support the fisheries and aquaculture industry.

Interactive influence of dietary protein and lipid on maturation of Indian white prawn, Penaeus indicus broodstock

Sheryll S. Santander-Avancena et al.

Summary: The study highlights the importance of protein and lipid requirements for the gonad maturation of penaeid species. Diets with a protein/lipid combination of 55/12 were found to be most effective for Indian white prawn maturation. High dietary lipid levels were associated with hepatopancreas damage and gonadal atresia.

Nursery rearing of Indian white shrimp, Penaeus indicus: Optimization of dietary protein levels and stocking densities under different management regimes

P. S. Shyne Anand et al.

Summary: Two sets of experimental trials were conducted to optimize protein requirement and stocking densities of Indian white shrimp post-larvae in nursery rearing. The study found that substrate integration in nursery rearing significantly improves the growth characteristics of shrimp, alleviating the adverse effects of crowding stress. Different management systems also had impacts on water quality parameters.

Cellular and molecular immune response and production performance of Indian white shrimp Penaeus indicus (H. Milne-Edwards, 1837), reared in a biofloc-based system with different protein levels of feed

A. Panigrahi et al.

Summary: The study found that in a biofloc system, shrimp fed with medium protein level (30%) showed the best growth performance, while those fed with high protein (35%) performed better than those fed with low protein (25%) and the control group (35%). In terms of immune parameters, shrimp fed with high protein diet exhibited higher HA and PO activities in plasma, while medium protein diet resulted in higher PO activity in serum. Additionally, the higher protein diet group showed better inhibition of lysozyme and SOD compared to the low protein diet group. The study suggested that supplementation of biofloc with high protein levels could enhance the immune response of shrimps.
