Effect of wrist-ankle acupuncture on propofol dosage during painless colonoscopy: A randomized controlled prospective study

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effect of wrist-ankle acupuncture on the dose of propofol and adverse reactions during colonoscopy. The results showed that wrist-ankle acupuncture can reduce the dose of propofol and decrease the incidence of adverse reactions, while being a simple and feasible procedure.

Acupuncture to Improve Patient Discomfort During Upper Gastrointestinal Endoscopy: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Summary: This systematic review examined the potential role of acupuncture in gastrointestinal endoscopy. The findings suggest that acupuncture as an adjunctive therapy to topical pharyngeal anesthesia (TPA) may reduce discomfort in patients compared to TPA alone. However, caution should be exercised in interpreting the results due to heterogeneity and limitations in the quality of evidence. Further rigorously designed studies are needed to establish the effectiveness of acupuncture.
