Catalytic ozonation of NH4+-N in wastewater over composite metal oxide catalyst

Caiqing He et al.

Summary: The study investigates the degradation of NH4+-N in wastewater using Ce/MnOx composite metal oxide catalysts prepared under different conditions. The optimal catalyst was found to be prepared with Na2CO3 precipitant and a Ce/Mn molar ratio of 1:2, calcined at 400 degrees C for 3 hours at pH 11.0, showing high removal rates of NH4+-N and selectivity to gaseous nitrogen. The study also explores the effects of various operating factors, catalyst performance, and the application of catalytic ozonation for actual wastewater treatment, suggesting that CeO2-MnO2 composite metal oxide catalysts are effective for NH4+-N treatment.

The mechanisms of ozonation for ammonia nitrogen removal: An indirect process

Yunpeng Yang et al.

Summary: This study revealed different reaction pathways of ammonia oxidation under different pH conditions, clarifying the mechanism of ammonia oxidation. Under alkaline conditions, high Cl/N ratio impeded ammonia removal; under neutral and acidic conditions, high Cl/N ratio significantly accelerated ammonia removal and promoted the generation of gaseous nitrogen.

Ceria-supported palladium as a highly active and selective catalyst for oxidative decomposition of ammonium ion in water with ozone

Philip Anggo Krisbiantoro et al.

Summary: The study found that Al2O3-supported precious metal catalysts, particularly Pd/CeO2, exhibited the best performance in the oxidative decomposition of NH4+ in water, showing high activity, selectivity, and stability compared to other catalysts. The presence of Cl- was essential for the reaction to proceed, and the moderate value of the d-band center relative to the Fermi level of Pd was found to contribute to the high catalytic performance.
