Elevated Circulating Endocan Levels Are Associated with Increased Levels of Endothelial and Inflammation Factors in Postprandial Lipemia

Serap Ozer Yaman et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the circulating levels of endocan in PPL subjects and determine its association with endothelial and inflammatory factors. The results showed that the levels of endocan were significantly higher in PPL subjects and positively correlated with other endothelial and inflammation factors.

Evaluation of arterial stiffness and serum endocan levels in patients with primary aldosteronism with new-onset hypertension and long-term hypertension

M. Can et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk indicators, such as arterial stiffness measured by pulse wave velocity (PWV) and endocan levels, in patients with primary aldosteronism (PA). The results showed that arterial stiffness increased in PA patients with long-term hypertension compared to those with new-onset hypertension, essential hypertension patients, and healthy controls. Furthermore, endocan levels in PA patients were lower than in essential hypertension patients and healthy controls.

Endocan: A Key Player of Cardiovascular Disease

Jinzhi Chen et al.

Summary: Endocan, also known as endothelial cell specific molecule-1, is a soluble proteoglycan mainly secreted by endothelial cells. Increased plasma levels of endocan may reflect endothelial activation and dysfunction, and are considered a potential immuno-inflammatory marker related to cardiovascular disease. Endocan shows promise as a prognostic biomarker for cardiovascular disease, but further research into its mechanisms of action is needed.

The Association Between Serum Endocan Level and Short-Term Prognosis of Patients With Acute Ischemic Stroke

Summary: This study found that elevated serum endocan levels were associated with increased risk of poor outcomes in patients with acute ischemic stroke at 3 months after onset. Endocan may serve as a potential prognostic factor for ischemic stroke.

Blood and aqueous humor phoenixin, endocan and spexin in patients with diabetes mellitus and cataract with and without diabetic retinopathy

Fatih Celik et al.

Summary: This study investigated the levels of PNX, EDC, and SPX in the blood and aqueous humor of patients with type 2 diabetes with and without DRP and cataract. The results showed that the levels of PNX and EDC were significantly higher in both blood and aqueous humor samples of patients with DRP and cataract, while the levels of SPX were significantly lower compared to patients without DRP. These findings suggest that PNX, EDC, and SPX may play a role in the pathophysiology of diabetes and DRP.

Diagnostic and Prognostic Protein Biomarkers of β-Cell Function in Type 2 Diabetes and Their Modulation with Glucose Normalization

Abu Saleh Md Moin et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine whether reported protein biomarkers could distinguish patients with early-onset type 2 diabetes (T2D) from controls, and found significant differences in certain proteins in T2D. These results suggest that protein biomarkers may be useful for assessing beta-cell dysfunction and could be used in clinical decision-making for insulin therapy.

Summary: The study revealed a relationship between Endocan levels and NRP in STEMI patients, with Endocan >2.7 ng/mL serving as a sensitive and specific predictor for NRP. Endocan levels may assist in identifying patients at higher risk of inadequate myocardial perfusion and worse clinical outcomes.

Summary: Incretin-based therapies, including GLP-1 receptor agonists and DPP-4 inhibitors, show promising therapeutic roles in the management of PCOS, with significant improvements in metabolic and hormonal parameters, as well as increased fertility. Larger clinical trials are needed to further establish their efficacy in PCOS management.

Summary: Childhood obesity is associated with increased risk of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases in adulthood. Measuring cIMT and endocan levels can serve as biological markers for complications caused by endothelial damage, and early preventive measures can significantly reduce morbidity and mortality in adults.
