Polycyclic Polyprenylated Acylphloroglucinols Bearing a Lavandulyl- Derived Substituent from Garcinia xanthochymus Fruits

Zhi-Hong Xu et al.

Summary: In this study, 21 new polycyclic polyprenylated acylphloroglucinols (PPAPs) were isolated and characterized from Garcinia xanthochymus. The relative configuration of the C-30 stereocenter was determined using various methods, and the absolute configurations of the new compounds were assigned through spectroscopic analysis. The isolated PPAPs showed moderate antiproliferative activity, with some compounds inducing apoptosis and inhibiting cell migration in hepatocellular carcinoma cells by downregulating the STAT3 signaling pathway.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Identification and Application of Bioactive Compounds from Garcinia xanthochymus Hook. for Weed Management

Md. Mahfuzur Rob et al.

Summary: The allelopathic potential of Garcinia xanthochymus extracts was evaluated against various test plant species, inhibiting their growth in a concentration- and species-specific manner. Two allelopathic compounds, methyl phloretate and vanillic acid, were identified in the extracts, with methyl phloretate being more effective in inhibiting cress and timothy seedlings growth compared to vanillic acid. These findings suggest the involvement of methyl phloretate and vanillic acid in the phytotoxicity of G. xanthochymus extracts.

Garcinielliptone G from Garcinia subelliptica Induces Apoptosis in Acute Leukemia Cells

YoungSook Yun et al.

Summary: Compounds isolated from Garcinia subelliptica leaves have cytotoxicity and apoptosis-inducing properties, with garcinielliptone G (5) showing the ability to induce apoptosis in human acute monocytic leukemia and T lymphocyte cells. The mechanism of apoptosis involves activation of caspase-3 and caspase-independent pathways.
