Climate change and thermo-solar patterns of office buildings with/without window films in extreme hot-arid climate of Kuwait

Ahmad Sedaghat et al.

Summary: This research aims to use window film to regulate indoor temperature and humidity in office buildings to mitigate the impact of climate change. By collecting data and building models, it was found that offices with window films have increased indoor humidity and reduced temperature, leading to a significant decrease in cooling loads. Simulation results show the energy saved and reduced CO2 footprints by applying solar window films in buildings.

Influence of Traditional and Solar Reflective Coatings on the Heat Transfer of Building Roofs in Mexico

Ivan Hernandez-Perez

Summary: This study simulated the thermal behavior of concrete slab roofs with traditional and solar reflective coatings, showing that white roofs can significantly reduce heat absorption, validated by experimental data. In non-insulated cases, white roofs had lower exterior surface temperatures compared to gray roofs, reducing heat gain. White roofs with insulation showed even more significant reductions in temperature, resulting in much lower heat gains.

Strategy for improving the activity and selectivity of CO2 electroreduction on flexible carbon materials for carbon neutral

Xue Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the active sites and reaction mechanisms for CO2 electroreduction over metal N-doped flexible carbon materials using Phthalocyanine (Pc) and Iron Phthalocyanine (FePc) molecules as model catalysts. FePc molecule shows significantly higher activity for CO production and slightly lower activity for H2 evolution compared to Pc molecule. The research demonstrates that the mechanism for CO2 reduction from DFT calculation is in agreement with the experimental results, providing guidance in the rational design of green catalysts and the implementation of carbon neutral technologies.

Investigating the energy saving potential of thermochromic coatings on building envelopes

Afaq A. Butt et al.

Summary: The optimal TC coating properties vary depending on climate and building types. TC coatings with high switching temperatures are more energy efficient in scenarios with high heating demands, while TC coatings with low switching temperatures perform better in scenarios with high cooling demands.

Thermal zoning and window optimization framework for high-rise buildings

Meseret T. Kahsay et al.

Summary: Window sizing and configuration can significantly affect building energy consumption, with conflicting objectives on heating, cooling, and lighting performance. High-rise building energy consumption analyses have limitations, and this study provides a simulation-based optimization framework for minimizing energy consumption. By using CFD modeling, building energy simulation, and numerical optimization, optimal window configurations for rooms at different heights were determined based on thermal comfort and daylight constraints.
