UEP: an open-source and fast classifier for predicting the impact of mutations in protein-protein complexes

Pep Amengual-Rigo et al.

Summary: This study introduces the UEP classifier trained on interactome data for predicting beneficial and detrimental mutations in protein-protein complexes. Despite its simplicity, the UEP algorithm shows competitive results with gold standard methods in the field while also proposing a consensus selection procedure for higher classification accuracy. Overall, the analysis of interactome data demonstrates the effectiveness of UEP as a fast and reliable tool for predicting the impact of protein-protein mutations.

Electron transfer flavoprotein and its role in mitochondrial energy metabolism in health and disease

Barbara J. Henriques et al.

Summary: Electron transfer flavoprotein (ETF) is an enzyme essential in cellular metabolism, transferring electrons from various enzymes to the respiratory chain to provide reducing power for cells. ETF relays electrons to the respiratory chain by direct transfer between enzyme-bound flavins, promoting electron transport.

Contingency and chance erase necessity in the experimental evolution of ancestral proteins

Victoria Cochran Xie et al.

Summary: The roles of chance, contingency, and necessity in evolution impact protein sequence variations, with contingency gradually erasing necessity and overwhelming chance as the primary cause of acquired variation over long historical timescales. Replicated evolutionary trajectories show that idiosyncratic historical events shape patterns of variation in proteins like BCL-2.
