Performance and emissions of a diesel engine fueled with palm oil ethyl ester combined with fumigated ethanol on a dual fuel mode

Summary: This study presents the performance and emissions of a diesel engine operated in dual fuel mode, using palm oil ethyl ester (POEE) as the main fuel and supplementary ethanol. The engine was operated at a constant speed of 3000 rpm under load variation without re-calibration. The results show that the engine performance continuously decreases with increasing ethanol vaporization in dual fuel mode, compared to POEE and regular diesel in normal mode. However, the fuel saving of POEE in dual fuel mode is increased by 40% compared to normal mode. Notably, the combination of POEE with ethanol fumigation demonstrates a continuous reduction in carbon dioxide, nitric oxide, and particulate matter emissions, while carbon monoxide emissions are significantly increased.

Effects of butanol blending and fumigation with Jatropha biodiesel on combustion, performance, and emissions of diesel engine

Summary: In this study, the performance and emissions of conventional diesel fuel, pure Jatropha biodiesel, Jatropha-butanol blended fuel, and Jatropha biodiesel with fumigated butanol were tested in a single-cylinder diesel engine. The results showed that butanol fumigation improved the properties of Jatropha biodiesel and provided a better overall performance compared to blended fuel and neat Jatropha biodiesel.
