N-Heterocyclic Carbenes and Their Metal Complexes Based on Histidine and Histamine Derivatives of Bacteriopurpurinimide for the Combined Chemo- and Photodynamic Therapy of Cancer

Sergey Tikhonov et al.

Summary: Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a promising method for treating oncological diseases, but it has limitations such as tumor hypoxia, limited light penetration, and low accumulation sensitivity. This study successfully combined PDT with chemotherapy by obtaining agents that contain a photodynamic subunit and implement the chemotherapy effect. In vitro and in vivo studies demonstrated high photoinduced activity and enhanced antitumor activity of the obtained compounds.

Porphyrins and Metalloporphyrins Combined with N-Heterocyclic Carbene (NHC) Gold(I) Complexes for Photodynamic Therapy Application: What Is the Weight of the Heavy Atom Effect?

Stefano Scoditti et al.

Summary: The photophysical properties of two classes of porphyrins and metalloporphyrins linked to N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) Au(I) complexes were investigated for their potential application in photodynamic therapy. Results showed that these compounds possess appropriate properties for generating cytotoxic singlet molecular oxygen and can be used as photosensitizers. The heavy atom effect in promoting the intersystem crossing process was found to vary depending on the identity and position of the metal center in the porphyrin core or linked to the peripheral NHC.

Molecular docking analysis and evaluation of the antimicrobial properties of the constituents of Geranium wallichianum D. Don ex Sweet from Kashmir Himalaya

Wajahat Rashid Mir et al.

Summary: This study investigates the antimicrobial activity of Geranium wallichianum and identifies potential therapeutic compounds. The results suggest that elatine, kaempferol, and germacrene-A show promising activity as inhibitors against several bacterial and fungal pathogens. Molecular dynamics simulations provide insights into the binding interactions between these compounds and target proteins, supporting further research in understanding the mechanism of action against these microbes.

Towards the design, synthesis and preliminary biological evaluation of potential corono and clipcarbenes: Novel bis-imidazolium-bis- heterocycle macrocyclic ligands

Hiba Hussein et al.

Summary: The synthesis of novel macrocyclic N-bis-imidazolium-bis-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) with rigid and constrained structures to improve the stability of their transition metal coordination complexes in order to obtain efficient photosensitizers is reported. Two pathways have been developed for the preparation of coronocarbenes (L1-L3) containing bipyridine or bithiazole groups. Flexible hemi-macrocycles with potential as clipcarbenes (L1''-L3'') are also described.
