Invited review: Effect of subacute ruminal acidosis on gut health of dairy cows

J. C. Plaizier et al.

Summary: Subacute ruminal acidosis (SARA) is a common disease in high-yielding dairy cows. The prevalence of SARA is determined by measuring ruminal pH, but this may not be accurate. Grain-based SARA challenges affect gut health by altering pH, microbiota composition, and causing inflammation. However, there are variations in the experimental methods used for SARA challenges, requiring further research.

Purification and structural characterization of the Na+-translocating ferredoxin: NAD+ reductase (Rnf) complex of Clostridium tetanomorphum

Stella Vitt et al.

Summary: The study investigates the structure and function of Rnf complex from Clostridium tetanomorphum using cryo-EM technique and biochemical data. The research reveals the electron transfer route and the role of sodium ion translocation in the redox process, and proposes the existence of a sodium ion channel.

Assessment of Bacterial Community Composition and Dynamics in Alfalfa Silages With and Without Lactobacillus plantarum Inoculation Using Absolute Quantification 16S rRNA Sequencing

Fengyuan Yang et al.

Summary: This study investigated bacterial compositions in alfalfa silage with and without Lactobacillus plantarum inoculation after 10 and 60 days of ensiling using absolute quantification 16S-seq (AQS). AQS effectively illustrated the dynamics of bacterial communities during the ensiling process and showed higher bacterial richness indices and closer correlations with fermentation properties compared to RQS.

Anaerococcus faecalis sp. nov., Isolated from Swine Faeces

Seung Yeob Yu et al.

Summary: A new obligate anaerobic coccoid bacterium, Anaerococcus faecalis sp. nov., was isolated from swine feces, showing optimal growth at pH 8.0 and 37°C, with tolerance up to 4% NaCl. Phylogenetic analysis revealed its relationship to Anaerococcus species, suggesting its classification as a novel taxon.
