An environmentally friendly nanocomposite polypyrrole@silver/reduced graphene oxide with high catalytic activity for bacteria and antibiotics

Chun Liu et al.

Summary: PPy@Ag/rGO nanocomposites were synthesized using a one-pot hydrothermal method, showing well-distributed PPy@Ag nanoparticles and enhanced antimicrobial efficiency. The addition of polypyrrole contributed to the stability of nanosilver and maintained the antibacterial rate above 90% after several cycles. Additionally, the composite exhibited good photocatalytic activity and catalytic stability for the degradation of tetracycline under visible light.

Emerging Concern for Silver Nanoparticle Resistance in Acinetobacter baumannii and Other Bacteria

Oliver McNeilly et al.

Summary: The misuse of antibiotics and lack of new developments are major factors contributing to the current antibiotic resistance crisis. Nanotechnology, particularly silver nanoparticles, could provide a solution as a new and alternative antibacterial option. While silver nanoparticles have shown strong antibacterial efficacy, concerns have been raised about the development of silver-resistant bacteria.

Significant improvement in antibacterial property of ZIF-8 decorated graphene oxide by post-synthetic modification process

Nazerah Ahmad et al.

Summary: The modification of ZGO with ammonium hydroxide can significantly improve its antibacterial effect, depending on the loading volume of ammonium hydroxide used during modification. The synergistic effects of amine groups and metal zinc (Zn) in the synthesized ZGO-NH composites may have tremendous potential as a beneficial antibacterial agent in the areas of water purification and biological applications.
