Isolation and Identification of Aeromonas veronii in Sheep with Fatal Infection in China: A Case Report

Yongqiang Miao et al.

Summary: According to a study conducted in a sheep breeding farm in Shaanxi, China, approximately 2.53% of sheep exhibited respiratory symptoms. Even with multiple drug treatment attempts, the mortality rate remained high at 40%. The pathogen responsible for respiratory disease was identified as Aeromonas veronii, and it posed a potential risk to the sheep husbandry industry. The study's findings can help guide prevention and treatment plans for A. veronii infection in sheep.

Bacillus cereus causes fatal disease in soft-shelled turtle (Trionyx sinensis)

Yu Zhang et al.

Summary: The soft-shelled turtle, an important aquacultural species in China, has been suffering from a bacterial infection caused by Bacillus cereus. This pathogen led to significant pathological changes in infected turtles, and the bacterium showed sensitivity to certain antibiotics, which could be used for prevention and treatment.

Pathogenicity of Aeromonas veronii causing mass mortalities of Odontobutis potamophila and its induced host immune response

Guoxing Liu et al.

Summary: This study found that Aeromonas veronii is the pathogen causing mass mortalities of Odontobutis potamophila. The identity of the representative isolate Stl3-1 was confirmed through morphological, physiological, and biochemical features analysis as well as gene sequencing. Histopathological analysis revealed severe tissue lesions in the fish caused by this isolate. Additionally, the study found that the immune-related gene expressions in O. potamophila infected by A. veronii were significantly up-regulated.

Acute septicemia and immune response of spotted sea bass (Lateolabrax maculatus) to Aeromonas veronii infection

Baotun Wang et al.

Summary: This study revealed the virulence of Aeromonas veronii infection in spotted sea bass. The 18BJ181 strain caused the fastest death in the fish. The bacteria primarily colonized the spleen and proliferated massively in the blood, resulting in acute septicemia. Histopathology showed edema, degeneration, and necrosis in the spleen, providing insights into the pathological features. Transcriptome analysis demonstrated the up-regulation of certain genes at 8 hours post-infection, indicating the activation of chemokine signal pathway and acute inflammatory response.

Development of the embryonic liver and pancreas of the Chinese softshell turtleTrionyx sinensis

Dechang Chu et al.

Summary: The research on the hatching ecology of Trionyx sinensis, the Chinese softshell turtle, plays an essential role in clarifying the physiological and ecological mechanisms of reptile evolution. This study focuses on describing the histological changes, differentiation, and maturation of functional cells in the liver and pancreas of T. sinensis during genesis and development. Immunohistochemical assays revealed that pancreatic endocrine cells in T. sinensis exhibit secretory ability by day 26 of embryonic development.

Antioxidant defense response during hibernation and arousal in Chinese soft-shelled turtle Pelodiscus sinensis juveniles

Zhong-hua Tang et al.

Summary: During hibernation, the expression levels of antioxidant defense genes decreased significantly in juvenile soft-shelled turtles, but recovered after arousal. Most antioxidant enzyme activities remained high and stable, indicating the ability of Chinese soft-shelled turtles to resist potential oxidative stress.

Application of a recombinant replicase to localize the Trionyx sinensis hemorrhagic syndrome virus and evaluate its effects on antiviral genes of T. sinensis

Sunjian Lyu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the distribution of TSHSV in different organs of infected Chinese softshell turtles and the immune response induced by polyclonal antibodies. Results showed specific binding of the generated polyclonal antibody to viral particles in the lung tissues and localization of the virus in various cells. The expression of immune-related genes was upregulated in infected turtles, particularly in the virus-antibody group, indicating potential antibody-dependent enhancement of the immune response.
