Genotype Shift of Malaysian Porcine Circovirus 2 (PCV2) from PCV2b to PCV2d within a Decade

Summary: This study aimed to provide an updated molecular status of porcine circovirus 2 (PCV2) in Malaysia. The molecular detection rate of PCV2 was reported to be 83.78% (31/37 farms) in farms and 83.54% (66/79 pigs) in sampled population. PCV2 was detected across all age groups, from fetuses to sows. Co-detection of PCV2 and PCV3 antigens was also observed. In addition, PCV2 antigen was detected in abattoir lung samples from clinically healthy finishers and in wild boar lung samples. Genotypes PCV2a, PCV2b, and PCV2d were present, with PCV2d being the predominant circulating genotype. The PCV2 cap gene nucleotide sequences in this study were found to be under negative selection pressure.

Designing a bivalent vaccine can increase the epitope breadth of the vaccine. Summary: Porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) is a widespread viral pathogen in pigs that has undergone genetic changes, with PCV2d being the dominant genotype in Korean pig populations. Coinfections of PCV2d with PCV2a or PCV2b are common in provincial pig herds. Genetic analysis revealed that one PCV2d strain, KNU-1931, had nucleotide sequence variations in the ORF1 gene compared to other PCV2d strains but exhibited a high degree of similarity to PCV2b strains due to natural recombination events.

Prevalence of Infection with Porcine Circovirus Types 2 and 3 in the Wild Boar Population in the Campania Region (Southern Italy)

A Comparison of Virulence of Three Porcine Circovirus Type 2 (PCV2) Genotypes (a, b, and d) in Pigs Singularly Inoculated with PCV2 and Dually Inoculated with PCV2 and Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome Virus

Summary: The study aimed to compare the virulence of different PCV2 genotypes in pigs dually inoculated with PCV2 and PRRSV-2 versus singularly inoculated pigs. Results showed that dual inoculation led to higher clinical scores, lower weight gain, higher PCV2 viremia levels, and more severe lung and lymphoid lesions compared to singular inoculation with PCV2. Among the dually infected pig groups, those infected with PCV2d/PRRSV-2 exhibited the highest PCV2 viremia levels and more severe lesions compared to other PCV2 genotypes.
