Fusobacterium nucleatum Accelerates Atherosclerosis via Macrophage-Driven Aberrant Proinflammatory Response and Lipid Metabolism

Jieyu Zhou et al.

Summary: This study reveals the pathogenic mechanisms of atherosclerosis induced by Fusobacterium nucleatum and provides new insights into the prevention and treatment of atherosclerosis. F. nucleatum invaded aortic tissues and increased the progression of atherosclerotic lesions. It also changed plaque composition into a less stable phenotype and facilitated cholesterol phagocytosis and accumulation in macrophages.

Fusobacterium nucleatum and oral cancer: a critical review

Emily McIlvanna et al.

Summary: There is a growing interest in the potential role inflammation plays in cancer initiation and progression, with examples such as Helicobacter pylori-mediated inflammation in gastric cancer and more recently, Fusobacterium nucleatum-mediated inflammation in colorectal cancer. Recent studies have shown that Fusobacterium nucleatum can promote cancer through multiple mechanisms, including activation of cell proliferation, promotion of cellular invasion, induction of chronic inflammation, and immune evasion, leading to hypotheses about its potential role in oral cancer development.

Fusobacterium nucleatum Adheres to Clostridioides difficile via the RadD Adhesin to Enhance Biofilm Formation in Intestinal Mucus

Melinda A. Engevik et al.

Summary: The study revealed that certain mucus-associated bacteria can promote colonization and biofilm formation of C difficile, with some patients infected with C difficile harboring high levels of Fusobacterium species. The interaction between pathogenic C difficile and F nucleatum in the intestinal mucus layer is shown to be unique.
