Gut microbiota and its role in stress-induced hyperalgesia: Gender-specific responses linked to different changes in serum metabolites

Summary: Long-term stress leads to hyperalgesia, with gender differences in the pain mechanism. The role of gut microbiota in pain has been confirmed, but its role in gender-specific hyperalgesia caused by chronic restraint stress (CRS) has not been explored. This study used gene sequencing and metabolomic analysis to show that gut microbiota is involved in gender-specific CRS-induced hyperalgesia by influencing the host's gut microbiota composition and serum metabolism. These findings provide new insights into the development of novel gut microbiota-associated drugs for managing gender-specific stress-induced hyperalgesia.
