Large-scale association analyses identify host factors influencing human gut microbiome composition

Alexander Kurilshikov et al.

Summary: The study revealed significant effects of host genetic variation on microbial composition, with the lactase (LCT) gene locus showing an age-dependent association with Bifidobacterium abundance. Other associations, while suggestive, were enriched for taxa with high heritability and for genes expressed in the intestine and brain.

Rumen microbiome structure and metabolites activity in dairy cows with clinical and subclinical mastitis

Yue Wang et al.

Summary: This study found that as the severity of mastitis increased, concentrations of rumen lactic acid, acetate, propionate, butyrate, valerate, and total volatile fatty acids were significantly decreased. In cows with clinical mastitis, there was an increase in bacteria related to intestinal and oral inflammation, while in subclinical mastitis cows, opportunistic pathogens and metabolites producing antibacterial compounds or having competitive inhibitory effects were increased. The results suggest a significant shift in ruminal microflora and metabolites during mastitis, with different patterns observed in cows with different udder health conditions.

Pharmacomicrobiology of Methotrexate in Rheumatoid Arthritis: Gut Microbiome as Predictor of Therapeutic Response

Huanhuan Yan et al.

Summary: RA is a disabling autoimmune disease with MTX therapy dramatically changing the treatment outcomes. However, up to 50% of patients do not respond adequately or experience severe adverse events. Some researchers believe that differences in the gut microbiome of patients may partly determine their response to MTX.

Effect of Breeding Heavier Romney Ewe Lambs at Seven Months of Age on Lamb Production and Efficiency over Their First Three Breeding Seasons

Emmanuelle Haslin et al.

Summary: This experiment investigated the impact of breeding heavier ewe lambs on lamb production and efficiency over the first three breeding seasons. Results showed that breeding heavier ewe lambs increased total lamb production over the three-year period, but had no effect on ewe efficiency. Heavier ewe lambs at breeding weaned a greater number of lambs, indicating a positive relationship between ewe lamb breeding weight and mature weight.

Interactive Tree Of Life (iTOL) v5: an online tool for phylogenetic tree display and annotation

Ivica Letunic et al.

Summary: The Interactive Tree Of Life is an online tool for displaying, manipulating, and annotating phylogenetic and other trees. The latest version 5 introduces a new tree display engine and several new features, such as a new dataset type and expanded annotation options. Users can now also manually annotate trees by hand, providing more flexibility and control.

Taxonomic signatures of cause-specific mortality risk in human gut microbiome

Aaro Salosensaari et al.

Summary: The composition of gut microbiome is closely related to health and disease. Research has found that microbiome signatures related to the Enterobacteriaceae family are associated with cause-specific mortality risk in a well phenotyped Finish population over a 15-year follow-up.

A Single-Step Genome Wide Association Study on Body Size Traits Using Imputation-Based Whole-Genome Sequence Data in Yorkshire Pigs

Huatao Liu et al.

Summary: A genome-wide association study on body size traits in Yorkshire pigs identified 11 candidate genes associated with bone growth, nutrient absorption, and obesity. These genes could provide valuable information for molecular breeding in pigs. The results suggested HMGA1 as a strong candidate gene for body size traits based on its important function and high consistency with other studies.
