Intranasal Administration of Self-Oriented Nanocarriers Based on Therapeutic Exosomes for Synergistic Treatment of Parkinson's Disease

Huan Peng et al.

Summary: The treatment of Parkinson's disease has been hindered by complex pathologies and membrane barriers. A self-oriented nanocarrier called PR-EXO/PP@Cur, combining stem cell-derived exosomes with curcumin, can overcome these barriers and achieve threepronged synergistic treatment for PD. PR-EXO/PP@Cur shows great prospects for the treatment of PD and other neurodegenerative diseases.

Anti-prostate cancer protection and therapy in the framework of predictive, preventive and personalised medicine - comprehensive effects of phytochemicals in primary, secondary and tertiary care

Alena Mazurakova et al.

Summary: According to GLOBOCAN 2020, prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in males in 112 countries and the leading cause of cancer-related death in 48 countries. The increasing incidence of prostate cancer in young populations and the rising treatment costs create a significant socio-economic burden. To address this issue, proactive measures such as advanced population screening and personalized prevention should be implemented. Phytochemicals have shown promising anti-cancer effects at different stages of prostate carcinogenesis and can improve treatment outcomes. Moreover, they can potentially reduce the negative side effects of conventional anti-cancer therapies.

Kigelia africana inhibits proliferation and induces cell death in stage 4 Neuroblastoma cell lines

Sofia Ahrens et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of KA fruit extract on stage 4 high-risk NB cells. The results showed that KA fruit extract had a dose- and time-dependent selective cytotoxic effect on NB cells, especially in MYCN non-amplified tumor cells. Additionally, KA was found to regulate proteins involved in tumor growth and metastasis. These findings provide evidence for the potential therapeutic properties of KA fruit extract in NB and suggest further research on its mechanisms of action.

Bisphenol A(BPA), BPS and BPB-induced oxidative stress and apoptosis mediated by mitochondria in human neuroblastoma cell lines

Congcong Wang et al.

Summary: The analogues of BPA, BPS and BPB, may induce oxidative stress and apoptosis in neuroblastoma cells, with males being more susceptible to BPs. Interestingly, BPS shows lower neurotoxic effects compared to BPA and BPB with BPA having a significantly higher impact on IMR-32 cells than on SK-N-SH cells.

Summary: Comprehensive scientific data support that Rhus coriaria L. (sumac) exhibits significant anticancer activities in rodent models of breast carcinoma, including reducing tumor volume, inhibiting mitotic activity index, and affecting tumor incidence. These effects were further validated by mechanistic studies both in vivo and in vitro, demonstrating the potential of sumac as a preventive agent against carcinogenesis.

Zijie Ye et al.

Summary: Neuroblastoma is a solid tumor with high mortality rates in children, and curcumin has shown anticancer properties in treating these tumors. Curcumin inhibits cell proliferation and migration, induces apoptosis through cell cycle arrest and caspase-3 activation, and promotes ROS overproduction and apoptosis through p53 and Bcl-2 pathways in NB cells.

Polyphenols as Antitumor Agents Targeting Key Players in Cancer-Driving Signaling Pathways

Manuel Humberto Chairez-Ramirez et al.

Summary: Polyphenols have been shown to regulate signaling pathways central to cancer development, progression, and metastasis. They induce protein modifications, particularly on p53, influencing its role in DNA damage response, apoptosis control, and cell-fate decisions. Understanding the effects of polyphenols on key players in cancer-driving signaling pathways can lead to improved targeted therapies with reduced toxicity for cancer treatment.
