Design of a multi-epitope-based vaccine targeting M-protein of SARS-CoV2: an immunoinformatics approach

Vijaya Sai Ayyagari et al.

Summary: In this study, a multi-epitope vaccine targeting the membrane glycoprotein (M) on the envelopes of coronaviruses was designed using Immunoinformatics approach. The vaccine included antigenic, nonallergic, and nontoxic B-cell and T-cell epitopes. The vaccine construct consisted of multiple B-cell epitopes and was successfully cloned. Immune simulation studies showed the induction of immune responses by the vaccine.

Protein-Ligand Docking in the Machine-Learning Era

Chao Yang et al.

Summary: Molecular docking plays a significant role in early-stage drug discovery, and its success relies on the protein-ligand scoring function. This review provides an overview of recent scoring function development and docking-based applications in drug discovery. It discusses the strategies and resources for structure-based virtual screening, as well as the evaluation and development of classical and machine learning protein-ligand scoring functions. The review highlights the recent progress in machine learning scoring functions, including descriptor-based models and deep learning approaches. It also discusses the general workflow and docking protocols of structure-based virtual screening, along with a case study on large-scale docking-based virtual screening.

Effect of rotavirus genetic diversity on vaccine impact

Asma Sadiq et al.

Summary: Group A rotaviruses are the leading cause of gastroenteritis globally, with four vaccines pre-qualified by WHO. These vaccines are currently in use in only two countries. By the end of 2019, 108 countries had administered rotavirus vaccines, with 10 countries approved for future introduction by Gavi. The vaccines have had a substantial effect on diarrhoeal morbidity and mortality, especially in high income settings.

In silico analysis of epitope-based vaccine candidate against tuberculosis using reverse vaccinology

Shaheen Bibi et al.

Summary: The researchers developed a universal TB vaccine using advanced computational techniques. They selected conserved and experimentally confirmed Mtb antigens to design a novel multi-epitope subunit vaccine, and predicted different B-cell and T-cell epitopes. A promising candidate for a tuberculosis vaccine, the vaccine may activate humoral and cellular immune responses, but further experimental validations are needed.

Do Rotavirus Strains Affect Vaccine Effectiveness? A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

Jordan E. Cates et al.

Summary: The study revealed that in high-income countries, RV1 had 10% lower effectiveness against partially and fully heterotypic strains compared to homotypic strains. In middle-income countries, this difference was 14-16%, and RV5 showed less pronounced differences, primarily in high-income countries. Ongoing surveillance is crucial, especially in low-income settings with limited data.
