Disproportionate multimorbidity among veterans in middle age

Katharine Bloeser et al.

Summary: The study found that the risk of multimorbidity among middle-aged veterans increased across all age groups after age 25. Veterans aged 35-44 had the highest odds of reporting multimorbidity, with a 50% to 80% higher likelihood compared to non-veterans of the same ages.

Association of hemoglobin A1c time in range with risk for diabetes complications

David C. Mohr et al.

Summary: In this study, the association between hemoglobin A1c time in range (A1c TIR) and risks of developing microvascular and macrovascular complications in older adults with diabetes was evaluated. The results showed that maintaining stability of A1c levels in unique target ranges was associated with a lower likelihood of developing complications.

Source of Post-Transplant Care and Mortality among Kidney Transplant Recipients Dually Enrolled in VA and Medicare

Winn Cashion et al.

Summary: Most dually enrolled veterans undergo kidney transplantation at non-Veterans Health Administration centers using Medicare, but rely on Veterans Health Administration for post-transplant care. Patients who receive post-transplant care exclusively from Veterans Health Administration have the lowest 5-year mortality rate.

Effect of Continuous Glucose Monitoring on Glycemic Control in Patients With Type 2 Diabetes Treated With Basal Insulin A Randomized Clinical Trial

Thomas Martens et al.

Summary: Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) was more effective in reducing HbA1c levels at 8 months compared to blood glucose meter (BGM) monitoring in adults with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes treated with basal insulin without prandial insulin. Participants using CGM also showed better time in target glucose range and lower mean glucose values.

Association of Real-time Continuous Glucose Monitoring With Glycemic Control and Acute Metabolic Events Among Patients With Insulin-Treated Diabetes

Andrew J. Karter et al.

Summary: In this retrospective cohort study, insulin-treated patients with diabetes who were selected by physicians for real-time continuous glucose monitoring showed significant improvements in HbA1c and reductions in emergency department visits and hospitalizations for hypoglycemia compared to noninitiators, but there were no significant changes in emergency department visits or hospitalizations for hyperglycemia or for any reason.

Exploring Health Outcomes for U.S. Veterans Compared to Non-Veterans from 2003 to 2019

Jose A. Betancourt et al.

Summary: The physical demands on U.S. service members have significantly increased in the past few decades, leading to a higher risk of certain health conditions among Veterans, especially in terms of weight, heart disease, stroke, etc. Study findings suggest that the overall health status of U.S. Veterans is poor and may require more effective health interventions.
