Development of PVA-based microsphere as a potential embolization agent

Xueqing Yang et al.

Summary: This study reported the synthesis of iodine (I)-polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)@polydopamine (PDA) microspheres with imaging ability, drug loading and controlled release, and enhanced embolization of liver portal vein. The microspheres showed excellent computed tomography imaging ability and tissue adhesive ability, leading to improved in vivo embolization effect. Furthermore, the microspheres were able to deliver and release chemotherapeutic drugs, and have potential for interventional treatment of various diseases.

Bacteria as Nanoparticle Carriers for Immunotherapy in Oncology

Victor M. Moreno et al.

Summary: The use of nanocarriers to deliver antitumor agents to solid tumors is challenging due to biological barriers. Recent research has suggested a paradigm shift, targeting the immune system instead of tumoral cells to exploit its ability for capturing and interacting with nanometric particles. Bacteria are proposed as valuable carriers to improve the accumulation and penetration of nanomedicines into malignancies, utilizing their natural immunogenicity.
