Impact of model assumptions on demographic inferences: the case study of two sympatric mouse lemurs in northwestern Madagascar

Helena Teixeira et al.

Summary: This study investigates the demographic changes in two forest-dependent primate species in northwestern Madagascar using genomic data and demographic modeling approaches, revealing that closely related species may exhibit different responses to climatic events. The results suggest that changes in population connectivity may play a more significant role in shaping demographic dynamics than changes in population size during climatic fluctuations. Further research on historic forest dynamics in lowland habitats is needed to better understand the population dynamics of these species.
