Global value chains participation and CO2 emissions in RCEP countries

Zhiling Qian et al.

Summary: The study examines the impact of GVC participation on CO2 emissions in the RCEP countries. It finds that forward participation in GVCs can reduce emissions by improving production technology, while backward participation increases emissions by increasing trade scale. Additionally, GVC participation has spatial spillover effects on emissions in home and neighbor countries. At the industry level, forward participation in medium-high tech manufacturing and productive services industries is more effective in reducing emissions, whereas backward participation in low-tech manufacturing industries may increase emissions.

Economic feasibility of a solketal production process from glycerol at small industrial scale

Julian A. Vannucci et al.

Summary: This paper analyzes the technical and economic feasibility of industrial-scale production of solketal from glycerol. The study shows that the process is economically viable if the sale price of solketal is higher than 2,400 USD/t, even for small-scale plants. Additionally, reducing the cost of cooling water has a greater impact on profitability than prolonging the catalyst's useful life.

Solketal synthesis from ketalization of glycerol with acetone: A kinetic study over a sulfated zirconia catalyst

Julian A. Vannucci et al.

Summary: A series of acid catalysts were synthesized from a commercial zirconium oxide sulfated with a 0.5 M H2SO4 solution by wet impregnation. The sulfated zirconia calcined in air at 400 degrees C (Zr-S-400) showed the highest activity and stability for glycerol conversion, with a molar ratio S/Zr = 0.23. The estimated activation energy of the reaction based on a developed kinetic expression was 88.1 +/- 8.9 kJ/mol.

Determination of hemicellulose, cellulose, holocellulose and lignin content using FTIR in Calycophyllum spruceanum (Benth.) K. Schum. and Guazuma crinita Lam.

Rosario Javier-Astete et al.

Summary: This study found significant differences in cellulose, hemicellulose, holocellulose, and lignin content between the apical and basal stem of juvenile Capirona and Bolaina trees. By using FTIR spectra and PLS models, efficient predictions of wood chemical composition were achieved, demonstrating the reliability of this method for determining the chemical composition of these trees.

Solvent-free solketal production from glycerol promoted by yeast activated carbons

Raphael Rodrigues et al.

Summary: Chemically activated carbons derived from yeast biomass waste were modified with HNO3 to enhance surface acid features for application as catalysts in solvent-free solketal production, achieving high glycerol conversion rates and selectivity towards solketal with remarkable efficiency in consecutive runs. Characterization of the activated carbons was done through various techniques including N2 adsorption/desorption, thermal analysis, elemental analysis, surface functional group titration (Boehm titration), X-ray diffraction, and Raman spectroscopy.

Activated carbon from lignocellulosic biomass as catalyst: A review of the applications in fast pyrolysis process

Dengle Duan et al.

Summary: Activated carbon (AC) is widely used in various important fields, and the conversion of renewable lignocellulosic biomass (LB) is an economical and environmentally friendly way to produce AC. This review summarizes the effects of various process parameters on AC production and discusses the properties and characteristics of AC derived from LB, as well as its application in fast catalytic pyrolysis processes. Comparisons of catalytic performance between LB-derived AC, commercial AC, and zeolite-based catalysts for upgrading bio-oil are also investigated in this study.
