Electronic properties and reactivity patterns of high-valent metal-oxo species of Mn, Fe, Co, and Ni

Xiao-Xi Li et al.

Summary: Density functional theory (DFT) calculations were performed on terminal high-valent metal-oxo complexes with Mn, Fe, Co, and Ni, revealing changes in bond strength and reactivity patterns. The study found that as the metal center changes, the reactivity towards C-H bond activation also changes. Different electron transfer mechanisms were identified among the four species, providing insights for chemists on high-valent late transition metal-oxo species.

Mechanistic insight into oxygen atom transfer reactions by mononuclear manganese(iv)-oxo adducts

Priya Singh et al.

Summary: High-valent metal-oxo intermediates play a crucial role in oxygen-atom transfer reactions, and changes in metal reduction potential can lead to variations in reaction mechanisms. The rate variations observed for Mn-IV-oxo complexes are primarily controlled by activation enthalpy, indicating a single-step OAT mechanism. This suggests that large variations in sulfoxidation by Mn-IV-oxo centers occur without a change in reaction mechanism.
