Long-Term Variability on Suspended Particulate Matter Loads From the Tributaries of the World's Largest Choked Lagoon

Eduardo C. Bortolin et al.

Summary: This study assesses the variability of suspended particulate matter (SPM) concentrations in Patos Lagoon tributaries at seasonal to interdecadal scales. The results show that SPM concentrations vary seasonally and are influenced by El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO) at interannual scales. Higher concentrations occur from winter to spring, especially during El Nino periods, while lower concentrations occur from summer to autumn, especially during La Nina periods. These natural phenomena influence the spreading of river plumes, SPM concentrations in the lagoon, and the export to the Atlantic Ocean.

Changjiang Delta in the Anthropocene: Multi-scale hydro-morphodynamics and management challenges

Leicheng Guo et al.

Summary: The Changjiang Delta is a large delta undergoing significant hydro-morphodynamic changes and human influences. Declining sediment transport has led to lagging deltaic morphodynamic adaptation, while human activities have contributed to narrowing and deepening of deltaic channels. Shifting management priorities from delta development to ecosystem conservation may enhance resilience to flooding and erosion.

Human Impacts on Estuarine Erosion-Deposition in Southern Central Vietnam: Observation and Hydrodynamic Simulation

Vu Tuan Anh et al.

Summary: This study investigates the changes in erosion and deposition processes at a river mouth in Binh Dinh Province, Vietnam, following the construction of a jetty. The jetty alters the hydrodynamic and erosion-deposition processes, leading to increased deposition on the southern coast and intensified erosion on the north coast during the southwest monsoon. Sediments mainly come from local sources, accumulating more during the northeast monsoon compared to the southwest monsoon.
