Enhancement and inhibition of the oxidation rates of pyrolytic chars from wood loaded with potassium compounds

Carmen Branca et al.

Summary: The oxidation of potassium-loaded beech wood chars produced from packed-bed pyrolysis at moderate temperatures was studied. As the potassium content increases, the process dynamics shift from a single to two conversion zones. Addition of additives with high basicity enhances carbon conversion, but excessive potassium content leads to saturation and inhibition effects. Additionally, a small amount of char is always oxidized at high temperatures. Potassium enhances char oxidation rates through alkaline catalysis and modifications in the char structure.

CO2 char gasification: A systematic review from 2014 to 2020

Rathziel Roncancio et al.

Summary: Global efforts to mitigate climate change are based on forecasts of future warmer temperatures on the earth's surface, mainly due to the positive radiative imbalances caused by accumulated Greenhouse Gases emissions. Recycling CO2 to useful molecules is the most desirable path, but faces difficulties due to the high thermodynamic stability of CO2.

Effect of oxidative torrefaction on high temperature combustion process of wood sphere

Xin Li et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that oxidative torrefaction (OT) affects the combustion process of wood spheres, increasing char yield and combustion time while forming a more cross-linked aromatic structure that hinders volatile release, resulting in denser and heavier char particles. The findings suggest that mass yield serves as a good indicator for both OT and traditional inert torrefaction processes.

Burning Dynamics of Straw Chars under the Conditions of Thermal Analysis

Carmen Branca et al.

Summary: The study reveals that the burning process of straw chars usually follows a two-stage pattern, with catalytically activated kinetic regime at first and then transitioning to a thermally activated regime. In most cases, complete conversion is achieved at around 750K.
