The influence of climate change on the suitable habitats of Allium species endemic to Iran

Farzaneh Khajoei Nasab et al.

Summary: This study predicted the present and future spatial distribution patterns of 20 endemic plant species in Iran and identified the most important environmental factors affecting their distributions. The results showed that suitable habitats for some species may increase or decrease under future climate conditions. Therefore, it is crucial to develop conservation strategies for these species in the respective regions.

Diversity and Distribution Patterns of Endemic Medicinal and Aromatic Plants of Iran: Implications for Conservation and Habitat Management

Mohammad Bagher Hassanpouraghdam et al.

Summary: Iran is home to a diverse range of medicinal and aromatic plants (MAPs), with 180 endemic species found in the country. The majority of these species belong to the Lamiaceae, Fabaceae, and Apiaceae families, and are concentrated in the Iran-o-Turanian region. The north, center, and western parts of Iran are particularly rich in MAPs and are considered biodiversity hotspots. However, many of these plants are at risk of extinction due to unsustainable harvesting practices and climate change. Conservation efforts are urgently needed to protect these important species and ensure their availability for future research.

MaxEnt Modeling to Predict the Current and Future Distribution of Pomatosace filicula under Climate Change Scenarios on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau

Kaiyang Chen et al.

Summary: This study examines the distribution and potential impact of global warming on the habitat of Pomatosace filicula, an important Tibetan medicine and a protected plant in China. The research shows that the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau currently provides a suitable habitat for P. filicula and is projected to continue doing so in the future. However, under certain climate change scenarios, the suitable habitat area may decrease, especially under high greenhouse gas emission scenarios. The study also identifies altitude, annual precipitation, and annual temperature range as the key factors influencing the distribution of P. filicula.

The contribution of the edaphic factor as a driver of recent plant diversification in a Mediterranean biodiversity hotspot

Antoni Buira et al.

Summary: This study reveals the environmental factors driving recent plant diversification in the Mediterranean Basin, with eudicots primarily influenced by high soil pH and dry-seasonal climate conditions, while monocots are associated with high elevation and less seasonal climate. The contrasting environmental drivers of diversification in eudicots and monocots emphasize the importance of analyzing spatial phylogenetic patterns at multiple scales to better understand biodiversity processes.

Current and future distribution of the deciduous shrub Hydrangea macrophylla in China estimated by MaxEnt

Xingyue Yan et al.

Summary: Climate change significantly affects the growth and distribution of vegetation, such as the widely distributed Hydrangea macrophylla. Using the maximum entropy model, researchers predicted changes in the distribution of suitable habitats for H. macrophylla in China under current and future climate scenarios, finding that precipitation and temperature play key roles. The optimal model showed high accuracy in predicting the potential geographical distribution of H. macrophylla, with habitat expanding northwards in China and centroids shifting the furthest under the maximum greenhouse gas emission scenario.

A Combination of Biotic and Abiotic Factors and Diversity Determine Productivity in Natural Deciduous Forests

Mahmoud Bayat et al.

Summary: The study tested the relationship between tree species diversity and forest productivity using a large dataset from 258 forest monitoring permanent sample plots. It found that tree diversity has a significant positive effect on productivity in species-rich broadleaved forests, with the best predictive model having 10 inputs, 6 hidden layers, and 1 output. The artificial neural network models, particularly the multilayer perceptron type, were effective in modeling the productivity-diversity relationships.
