Potential and problems in evaluating secular changes in the diversity of animal-substrate interactions at ichnospecies rank

Li-Jun Zhang et al.

Summary: Changes in diversity of trace fossils through time provide insights into the evolutionary innovations in animal-substrate interactions. Global ichnodiversity changes at ichnogeneric rank can capture major trends but may not reveal minor behavioral innovations. This study presents a quantitative analysis of ichnodiversity trajectories at ichnospecies rank for bioturbation structures at a global scale to evaluate how innovations in animal-substrate interactions are reflected in this hierarchical classification. The timing of diversification at ichnospecific rank is highly variable, with most diversification events occurring during the Cambrian Explosion and the Mesozoic Marine Revolution.

Soil-Plant Relationships in Soybean Cultivated under Conventional Tillage and Long-Term No-Tillage

Gustavo Ferreira da Silva et al.

Summary: This study verified the relationship between soybean yield and its components, physiological traits, root development, and soil physical-hydric properties under conventional tillage and no-tillage systems. The results showed that physiological components of the plant and soil water were negatively correlated with soybean yield, while root development and soil physical components were positively correlated with soybean yield.

Environmental risk of multi-year polythene film mulching and its green solution in arid irrigation region

Ze-Ying Zhao et al.

Summary: The environmental risk of multi-year polythene film mulching (PM) was evaluated, and it was found that organic mulching can effectively reduce the accumulation of microplastics in the soil and achieve similar productivity benefits. Furthermore, organic mulching promotes microbial activity and improves the assembly of microbial communities.

Effects of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi and Biochar on Growth, Nutrient Absorption, and Physiological Properties of Maize (Zea mays L.)

Jiahua Sun et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of biochar and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMFs) on maize growth, nutrient absorption, and physiological properties. The results showed that individual application of biochar or AMFs increased maize growth and mineral contents. However, biochar had a negative effect on mycorrhizal colonization, and there were no synergistic effects between biochar and AMFs on maize growth, nutrient absorption, and photosynthetic pigments.

Effects of fragmentation on grassland plant diversity depend on the habitat specialization of species

Yongzhi Yan et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the impacts of habitat loss and fragmentation on grassland plant species richness in the agro-pastoral ecotone of northern China. The results showed that habitat loss had a negative effect on overall species richness and grassland specialist richness, but a positive effect on weed richness. Additionally, the increase in patch density caused by habitat loss had a positive effect on overall species richness and grassland specialist richness. These findings highlight the importance of adding habitat patches in fragmented landscapes for conserving habitat specialists.

Effects of thermal properties and behavior of wheat starch and gluten on their interaction: A review

Zhen Wang et al.

Summary: Starch and gluten, the primary macromolecules in wheat flour, exhibit varying thermal properties. Understanding the thermal behavior of starch, gluten, and their complexes is crucial for the production and quality control of flour products. The complexity of starch-gluten systems makes it challenging to accurately describe their interactions.
