Meteorological Influences on Reference Evapotranspiration in Different Geographical Regions

Mona Ghafouri-Azar et al.

Summary: This study examined the impact of meteorological variables on reference evapotranspiration (ETo) on the Korean Peninsula, and found that ETo varies across different geographical conditions. The results showed that different meteorological variables have different effects on ETo, with relative humidity being the most critical variable.

Estimation of Reference Crop Evapotranspiration with Three Different Machine Learning Models and Limited Meteorological Variables

Stephen Luo Sheng Yong et al.

Summary: Precise estimation of reference crop evapotranspiration (ET0) is crucial for efficient irrigation scheduling in the East Coast Economic Region (ECER), Malaysia, where agricultural crop production is essential for the economy. This study evaluated different standalone machine learning models, including the light gradient boosting machine (LGBM), decision forest regression (DFR), and artificial neural network (ANN) models, using various combinations of meteorological variables. The incorporation of solar radiation improved the accuracy of the ML models, highlighting the role of energetic factors in evapotranspiration. The ANN and LGBM models performed satisfactorily and are recommended as alternate models for ET0 estimation due to their ability to capture non-linearities and interactions among meteorological variables.

Assessing the Effects of Surface Conditions on Potential Evapotranspiration in a Humid Subtropical Region of China

Hailong Wang et al.

Summary: This study calculated the potential evapotranspiration (ETp) in a province of humid subtropical China and analyzed the effects of environmental conditions on it. The results showed a significant increase in ETp, vegetation cover, wind speed, and temperature during the period of 1982-2015, while relative humidity decreased significantly. Summer exhibited the highest sensitivity to changes in environmental variables, with solar radiation, relative humidity, and precipitation having stronger influences on ETp than other factors. The study also found that NDVI and SWC positively and negatively affected ETp at different time scales, with SWC showing a more significant influence in summer.

Temporal trend changes in reference evapotranspiration contrasting different land uses in southern Amazon basin

Renan G. de Oliveira et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the behavior of reference evapotranspiration and its components in relation to land use in four locations in the North of Mato Grosso state, Brazil. Trends for a 20-year period were evaluated, along with the correlation between reference evapotranspiration and other variables. Insolation was found to be the variable that most influenced the variability of ETo.
