Pathogenic potential of bacteria isolated from commercial biostimulants

Daniela Bulgari et al.

Summary: Microbial-based products are a promising alternative to agrochemicals in sustainable agriculture. However, little is known about their impact on human health. This study isolated and characterized 18 bacteria from commercial biostimulants, and found that some of them have specific virulence properties. The potential pathogenicity of microorganisms in commercial products should be verified.

Bacillus velezensis stimulates resident rhizosphere Pseudomonas stutzeri for plant health through metabolic interactions

Xinli Sun et al.

Summary: Trophic interactions between inoculant Bacillus velezensis SQR9 and indigenous Pseudomonas stutzeri in the cucumber rhizosphere showed environmental dependency and involved synthesis of branched-chain amino acids. The synergistic interaction was only evident in nutrient-rich niches like pellicle biofilm. Furthermore, metabolic modeling and profiling demonstrated facilitation among the bacterial strains, promoting plant growth and alleviating salt stress.

Isolation and Characterization of Bacillus velezensis Strain P2-1 for Biocontrol of Apple Postharvest Decay Caused by Botryosphaeria dothidea

Hongbo Yuan et al.

Summary: In this study, Bacillus velezensis strain P2-1 isolated from apple branches showed strong inhibitory effects against Botryosphaeria dothidea, a major postharvest pathogen of apples. The strain inhibited the growth of B. dothidea, secreted antifungal substances, and induced apple defense responses. These findings suggest that B. velezensis strain P2-1 could be used as a biocontrol agent against B. dothidea-induced apple postharvest decay.
