Previous studies found that the low concentrations of allelochemicals in plant residues alone did not explain their significant weed control levels. This study demonstrated that synergistic interactions between volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and water-soluble compounds can explain the bioherbicidal effectiveness of allelopathic residues applied as a soil amendment.

Sorghum Allelopathy: Alternative Weed Management Strategy and Its Impact on Mung Bean Productivity and Soil Rhizosphere Properties

Summary: This study investigates the effects of sorghum crop residues and water extracts on weed dynamics, soil quality indices, microbial community, and mung bean crop productivity. The results show that the incorporation of sorghum water extract and residue leads to significant changes in weed density, soil quality indices, and microbial activity. The soil properties, such as available potassium, available phosphorus, soil organic matter, and total nitrogen, are also improved. The optimal effect is observed with the incorporation of 6 t ha(-1) sorghum residues. In Vitro Studies on Seed Germination of the Mediterranean Species Anthyllis barba-jovis to Facilitate Its Introduction into the Floriculture Industry

Mechanical scarification significantly improved germination, while photoperiod had no significant effect.
