Impacts of Rice Cropping System Changes on Paddy Methane Emissions in Southern China

Min Jiang et al.

Summary: The substitution of single-cropping rice for double-crop rice has become more common in southern China. This conversion has resulted in an 8.4% reduction in methane emissions from rice paddies in China. It is projected that total CH4 emissions could decrease by up to 17.1% under this conversion in southern China, making it an important opportunity for reducing agricultural methane emissions.

A new approach to suppress methane emissions from rice cropping systems using ethephon

Song Rae Cho et al.

Summary: Research shows that using ethephon mixed with biodegradable polymers such as cellulose acetate can effectively reduce methane emissions in rice paddies by slowing down the release of ethylene. This approach significantly decreases CH4 emissions without significantly altering bacterial communities, but reducing archaeal communities and the relative abundance and expression level of methanogens in paddy soils.

Differences of Physicochemical Properties Between Chalky and Translucent Parts of Rice Grains

Wang Cuili et al.

Summary: In this study, the differences between chalky and translucent rice flour were investigated. Chalky flour had lower amylose and protein contents, looser starch granule morphology, higher relative crystallinity, and different water states compared to translucent flour. The findings suggest that starch granule morphology is a more indicative attribute of pasting and gelatinization properties in chalky and translucent parts of rice grains.
