Evaluation of the antifungal efficiency of biocides currently applied in the Coimbra UNESCO area limestone monuments

Joao Trovao et al.

Summary: The application of biocides to control microbial proliferation in stone materials is common in the Coimbra & PRIME;s UNESCO World heritage monuments. However, the susceptibility of microbial communities to these biocides is often not fully understood. This study evaluated the efficiency of Biotin T and Preventol R80 and compared them with a commercial version of Ocimum basilicum essential oil against various fungal species. The results showed that Biotin T was more efficient than Preventol R80, and the commercial version of Ocimum basilicum essential oil also exhibited good results.

Influence of Polyvinylpyrrolidone Concentration on Properties and Anti-Bacterial Activity of Green Synthesized Silver Nanoparticles

Raghad Zein et al.

Summary: The environmentally friendly synthesis of stable PVP-capped silver nanoparticles was carried out, with a focus on the influence of adding PVP during the synthesis process on the properties and antibacterial effect of the nanoparticles. The addition of PVP was found to protect the silver nanoparticles and provide good dispersion, resulting in stable nanoparticles with no inhibitor activity against bacteria.

Antifungal activity assessment of nanocomposites of natural chitosan and gelatin with a mahogany plant extract for conservation of historical textiles

Harby E. E. Ahmed et al.

Summary: This study aimed to protect historical textiles from biological damage by using an innovative method of loading a mahogany plant extract onto natural chitosan and gelatin nanocomposite polymers. The results showed that the mahogany-chitosan composite was more effective in antifungal and antibacterial treatment of dyed linen, causing fewer changes in its mechanical, chemical, and optical characteristics compared to the mahogany-gelatin composite.

Evaluation of using essential oil constituents isolated from aromatic plants against insect pests attacking historical textiles in Egyptian Museums

Nagwa H. . A. El Shafeay et al.

Summary: This research presents a new method and safe materials for controlling insect attacks on historical textiles. The dyed silk fabrics, processed in a similar way to historical textiles, were evaluated for their mechanical, optical, and chemical properties after the application of clove oil and camphor oil. The results showed promising effects and indicated the suitability of this method and materials for historical textiles conservation.

Polyvinyl-Pyrrolidone-Coated Silver Nanoparticles-The Colloidal, Chemical, and Biological Consequences of Steric Stabilization under Biorelevant Conditions

Andrea Ronavari et al.

Summary: The biological properties of silver nanoparticles are influenced by their aggregation behavior, which in turn is affected by various factors such as pH, ionic strength, and biomolecules in biorelevant conditions. Colloidal stability plays a crucial role in maintaining the desired bioactivity of the nanoparticles.
