Robust optimisation for ripple effect on reverse supply chain: an industrial case study

Gokhan Ozcelik et al.

Summary: This study explores the ripple effects on system performance in reverse supply chain networks and introduces a robust optimization model to address uncertainties caused by these ripple effects. By applying the model to an industrial case study, changes in objective functions and decision variables under different uncertainty values are revealed. While computationally tractable robust solutions are obtained, the cost of robustness may be higher than expected to protect constraints against violations.

Ripple effect in the supply chain network: Forward and backward disruption propagation, network health and firm vulnerability

Yuhong Li et al.

Summary: This study investigates the different impacts of forward and backward disruption propagation in the supply chain network, revealing that they require distinct mitigation strategies and have varying effects on network and individual firm performance. Forward disruption propagation can be mitigated by substitute supply, while backward disruption can be alleviated by flexible operation and distribution.

Critical supply chain vulnerabilities affecting supply chain resilience of industrialized construction in Hong Kong

E. M. A. C. Ekanayake et al.

Summary: Industrialized construction is seen as a game-changing approach in Hong Kong, but the increasing risks in supply chains have raised vulnerability levels, prompting the need for supply chain resilience. This study identified 26 critical vulnerabilities in IC supply chains in Hong Kong, categorized under five components, with the loss of skilled labor being the most critical vulnerability. Results suggest the importance of addressing these vulnerabilities to enhance supply chain resilience.

Risk Propagation of Concentralized Distribution Logistics Plan Change in Cruise Construction

Yahong Zheng et al.

Summary: Compared to ordinary merchant ship building, centralized distribution in cruise building is more complex, leading to risks such as production schedule delay and inventory backlog due to plan changes. An in-depth study identified risk factors in different plan links, with a system dynamic model constructed to simulate the propagation of planning risks. Simulation experiments in Vensim showed that both inventory backlog risk and cruise construction schedule delay risk increase with the estimated values of risk factors, with production planning risk being the most sensitive factor.

A neo-institutional view of the transaction cost drivers of construction supply chain risk management

Raymond Obayi et al.

Summary: This study explores the impact of external neo-institutional pressures on shaping risk management strategies in construction supply chains in China. The findings indicate that Confucianist networks serve as proxies for regulatory accountability, influencing risk management strategies in both state-led and private-led supply chains. The study highlights the importance of relational and behavioral costs in driving supply chain risk management practices, and emphasizes the need for a nuanced understanding of efficiency in global construction supply chains.
