Origanum vulgare Essential Oil Modulates the AFB1-Induced Oxidative Damages, Nephropathy, and Altered Inflammatory Responses in Growing Rabbits

Mona A. Hassan et al.

Summary: The current study investigated the toxic effects of AFB1 on rabbit kidneys and the therapeutic role of O. vulgare essential oil (OEO) in reducing these effects. Results showed that OEO decreased cystatin C levels in the AFB1 group and reduced oxidative stress and lipid peroxidation in the co-exposed group. OEO also reduced DNA damage, inflammatory response, and down-regulated stress and inflammatory cytokines-encoding genes, while preserving the cytoarchitecture of rabbits' kidneys treated with AFB1.

Influence of the Slaughter Method on the Hygienic Quality of Beef Cattle Meat and Animal Welfare Biomarkers

Said Bouzraa et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the influence of slaughter method on the microbiology of meat and animal welfare physiological indicators for beef cattle. Three slaughter procedures were compared: regular slaughter, halal slaughter, and halal slaughter with stunning. The findings showed that halal slaughter with stunning demonstrated the best results for microbial counts and animal welfare biomarkers, although it resulted in the highest cortisol levels. The research compared different slaughter methods and assessed the hygienic quality of the meat and animal welfare indicators, while also conducting a radiological study on possible damage caused by stunning in halal rite slaughter.

Environmental heat stress in rabbits: implications and ameliorations

Abioja Monsuru Oladimeji et al.

Summary: Profitable production of rabbit meat requires a comfortable environment, as heat stress can adversely affect various aspects of rabbit welfare, health, and productivity. Rabbits are highly sensitive to high ambient temperatures due to their poor thermoregulation mechanisms, which makes heat dissipation challenging. The presence of thick fur further impedes heat loss in rabbits, contributing to the challenges posed by heat stress.
