Pathogens associated with pleuritic pig lungs at an abattoir in Queensland Australia

Summary: This study analyzed lung samples from 46 batches of pigs representing 46 farms in Queensland, Australia, and found that pathogens such as Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae, Streptococcus suis, and Porcine Circovirus type 2 were prevalent. The high percentage of batches infected with these pathogens suggests synergistic interactions may have resulted in pleurisy.

Agents of pneumonia in slaughtered pigs in southern Brazils

Summary: A study in southern Brazil identified a high prevalence of pneumonic lesions in slaughtered pigs, with the most common microorganisms being Influenza A virus, Pasteurella multocida, and Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae. Coinfections were common in 68% of the samples, with M. hyopneumoniae being the most frequent agent associated with pneumonic lesions. Furthermore, the study highlighted the importance of IAV in respiratory diseases in finishing pigs.
