Yanfei Li et al.

Summary: This study sequenced and annotated the mitogenomes of two species in Aschiphasmatidae for the first time, revealing a shared gene rearrangement structure that may serve as a synapomorphy for this group. Phylogenetic analysis showed Neophasmatodea and Phyllioidea as sister taxa, while the monophyly of other taxonomic units remains unresolved.

Positive Correlation of the Gene Rearrangements and Evolutionary Rates in the Mitochondrial Genomes of Thrips (Insecta: Thysanoptera)

Qiaoqiao Liu et al.

Summary: Aeolothrips, or banded thrips, is the largest genus in the family Aeolothripidae. The mitochondrial genome of Aeolothrips xinjiangensis shows a novel gene arrangement that differs from other Thysanoptera. Gene rearrangement patterns vary significantly across different thrips species, but overall tend to be stable. The mitogenome of Aeolothrips xinjiangensis has unique characteristics like a length of 16,947 bp, a different gene arrangement, and a novel conserved gene block trnC-trnY.

Novel Mitochondrial Gene Rearrangement and Intergenic Regions Exist in the Mitochondrial Genomes from Four Newly Established Families of Praying Mantises (Insecta: Mantodea)

Yi-Jie Lin et al.

Summary: In this study, the formation mechanisms of gene rearrangements and LNCRs in Mantodea were explored, providing insights into the phylogenetic relationships within this order. Several novel gene rearrangements were detected, and conserved motifs were identified. The study also supported the monophyly of one family and the paraphyly of another, and identified synapomorphies exclusive to certain clades.

Phylomitogenomics provides new perspectives on the Euphasmatodea radiation (Insecta: Phasmatodea)

Giobbe Forni et al.

Summary: The study found that the diversity of Phasmatodea species is mainly concentrated in the suborder Euphasmatodea, which has a pantropical distribution and is believed to have originated from a recent rapid evolutionary radiation. By analyzing the mitogenomes of 17 species and other available mitogenomes, researchers sought to uncover the origins and diversification of Euphasmatodea. The divergence time analysis suggested that Euphasmatodea diversification began around 187 million years ago, potentially influenced by the Triassic-Jurassic mass extinction and the breakup of Pangea.
